A tragic accident occurred on Sunday along the Umuahia-Bende Road, where a police patrol van from Abia State’s joint security team, “Operation Crush,” fell into a ditch.
One officer lost his life, while nine others sustained serious injuries. They are currently receiving medical care at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia. Local residents and passersby rushed to help, rescuing the injured officers from the scene.
The cause of the accident has not been officially confirmed, but witnesses said the vehicle suddenly veered off the road before falling into the ditch.
Additionally, one of the officers, who was initially thought to be missing, later appeared from the nearby bush unharmed.
Doctors at the Federal Medical Centre are doing their best to save the injured officers. A senior official from the Abia State government has also visited them to offer support.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine what caused the crash.
