A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison each for sharing videos considered offensive to religious and moral values.
The Kano State Censorship Board arrested them earlier, accusing them of posting content that goes against public decency.
During the trial, prosecutor Garzali Maigari Bichi charged them with criminal conspiracy and sharing illicit content online. However, both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The presiding magistrate, Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, ruled that they would serve one year in prison but also gave them the option to pay a fine of N100,000 instead. The judge also advised them to maintain good behavior in the future.
