EPL table: Liverpool go 8pts clear of Arsenal with 2-2 draw at Aston Villa

Liverpool have strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table, moving eight points ahead of Arsenal after a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

Before the match, the Reds had a seven-point lead after beating Wolves 2-1 at home. With Arsenal not playing until Saturday, Liverpool had a chance to extend their advantage.

They started well at Villa Park when Diogo Jota took advantage of a poor backpass and passed to Mohamed Salah, who easily scored into an empty net.

However, Aston Villa responded strongly. Youri Tielemans scored the equalizer, and just before halftime, Ollie Watkins’ header gave Villa a 2-1 lead.

Liverpool fought back in the second half, and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected shot made it 2-2.

With this result, Liverpool now have 61 points, while Arsenal remain at 53 points with one game in hand.
