Senator Ita Enang, a former federal lawmaker, has raised concerns that President Bola Tinubu might struggle to showcase completed projects during his reelection campaign. He blamed this on the insufficient funding allocated to key sectors in the proposed 2025 budget.
Speaking on Inside Sources on Channels Television, Enang, who also served as an aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, said the N49.7 trillion budget presented to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024, does not provide enough resources to fund critical projects.
“I’ve reviewed the budget thoroughly, and it doesn’t provide the president with projects he can proudly commission in 2026,” Enang stated.
The National Assembly is currently reviewing the budget, with lawmakers set to reconvene on February 4, 2025. However, Enang is concerned that if the current allocations are approved without changes, the president’s ability to deliver sectoral achievements may be limited.
He highlighted issues such as low revenue allocation and insufficient funding for essential ministries. According to him, this could lead to abandoned or uncompleted projects, which would harm Tinubu’s chances in the 2026 and 2027 campaigns.
“If the budget passes as it is, there will be tough questions for the president during the campaign,” Enang explained. “Without adequate funding, projects may remain incomplete, and there will be little to show voters.”
Enang advised the president’s team to carefully assess the budget and prioritize key sectors to ensure the completion of impactful projects.
“By the end of 2025, the president is expected to commission projects. If these remain unfinished, what will he showcase during the campaign?” Enang asked.
He called for urgent adjustments to the budget to align it with presidential priorities and ensure the successful delivery of critical projects.
