Ukraine’s military intercepts 50 Russian drones, attacks big oil refinery

Ukraine’s military has confirmed intercepting 50 of the 72 drones launched by Russia during an overnight attack. In addition, Ukrainian forces struck the Ryazan Oil Refinery, one of the largest refineries in Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that Russia has escalated its attacks, using over 1,250 aerial bombs, 750 drones, and more than 20 missiles over the past week. He emphasized the importance of staying united and working with international partners to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses. “Sanctions, lowering oil prices, and long-range defense capabilities are essential to counter Russia’s actions,” Zelenskiy stated.

The Ryazan Oil Refinery, a significant target, experienced explosions and a fire following Ukraine’s strike. While no casualties were reported, the extent of the damage is still being assessed, according to Russian authorities.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed its air defense systems intercepted 15 Ukrainian drones over its territory and two sea drones in the Black Sea. Eight drones were reportedly downed in the Ryazan region, six in the Kursk region, and one in Belgorod.

Ryazan Governor Pavel Malkov confirmed that no injuries occurred during the drone attacks, but investigations into the damage are ongoing.

As both nations ramp up their military efforts, the situation remains tense. International support for Ukraine continues to play a critical role as the country works to protect its citizens and infrastructure against ongoing attacks.
