Iran: Khamenei’s son, Mojtaba emerges frontrunner to succeed father as supreme leader

Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Iran’s Supreme Leader, is reportedly emerging as a top candidate to succeed his father. International media reports say members of Iran’s Assembly of Experts are considering him, although no official confirmation has been made.

Some foreign and opposition outlets claim he has already been selected, but Iranian authorities have not verified such reports. Discussions about succession are said to be ongoing behind closed doors.

Mojtaba, 56, is known for his hardline political views and close ties to Iran’s security and military institutions. Although he has never held a formal government post, he was sanctioned by the United States in 2019 over alleged political influence.

Analysts believe his emergence could signal a stronger conservative direction in Iran’s leadership if confirmed. However, experts stress that the final decision remains uncertain until it is formally announced.
