Jigawa Uncovers 6,348 Ghost Workers Receiving N3.7bn

The Jigawa State Government recently exposed 6,348 ghost workers after carrying out a statewide staff verification exercise. This significant discovery came from the Statewide Staff Audit Biometric Data Capture and Validation Exercise.

According to Mr. Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youths, Sports, and Culture, these ghost workers had been costing the government over N314 million every month. By identifying and removing them, the state has made major financial savings and ensured better use of public funds.

To prevent such issues in the future, the State Executive Council has approved the setup of a Continuous Capture Centre (CCC) under the Office of the Head of Civil Service. This centre will handle ongoing staff data collection and validation as part of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Management System (IPPMS).

The Jigawa State Government’s action shows its dedication to transparency, efficient payroll management, and financial accountability, ensuring that public resources benefit genuine workers and the people of the state.

“The exercise resulted in the detection of 6,348 ghost workers and significantly saved cost with an average of N314,657,342.06 per month and N3,775,888,809.72 per annum,” he said.
