The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored electricity to most parts of Bayelsa after a four-month blackout. The General Manager of TCN’s Port Harcourt Region, Emmanuel Anyaegbulem, confirmed the restoration during a press conference held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The power outage began on July 29 when criminals vandalized around 20 transmission towers along the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilovolt (KV) line, which is the only source of power for Bayelsa. As a result, Bayelsa residents experienced a long period without electricity.
Fixing the towers proved to be a major challenge, but the TCN team worked tirelessly to complete the repairs. The power was finally restored on November 30, bringing relief to residents who had been without power for months.
Anyaegbulem also shared that it costs about N13 million to build just one transmission tower. The company’s commitment to protecting its infrastructure has led to the arrest of 10 people involved in vandalizing TCN’s facilities in the region in 2024. Four of the suspects have already been convicted, and the remaining six are still in police custody.
TCN is committed to providing a steady power supply to Distribution Companies (DisCos), who in turn supply electricity to customers across the region, ensuring that power disruptions are minimized in the future.
