Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, has provided financial support to 250 elderly men and women in Nasarawa State. Each beneficiary, aged 65 and above, received a share of the N50 million donation, which was disbursed on Tuesday, December 17, in Lafia, the state capital.
This support is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, designed to improve the lives of senior citizens across Nigeria. Mrs. Tinubu explained that N1.9 billion has been allocated for this program nationwide, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The initiative aims to help elderly Nigerians cope with economic challenges.
Representing the First Lady at the event, Aisha Rufai-Ibrahim, Nasarawa State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, said the scheme would also benefit veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.
Mrs. Tinubu further announced free medical care for elderly citizens, which will soon start across the country to improve their health and overall well-being.
The Nasarawa State First Lady, Salifat Abdullahi-Sule, expressed gratitude to Remi Tinubu for her dedication to helping vulnerable groups. During the symbolic presentation of cash and wrappers, she encouraged the beneficiaries to use the support wisely to make the most of the opportunity.
This initiative highlights the First Lady’s commitment to reducing economic hardship for elderly Nigerians, improving their lives, and ensuring they receive the care they deserve.
