Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, officially signed the 2025 budget into law on Monday, December 16, 2024. The budget, titled “Sustaining Transformation and Inclusive Development,” was passed by the Kaduna State House of Assembly just ten days after the draft was presented.
The total budget for 2025 is N790.4 billion, with a focus on capital projects to drive development and economic growth. Of this amount:
- N551.6 billion is allocated for capital expenditure, which includes infrastructure, rural development, and other critical projects.
- N238.9 billion is for recurrent expenditure, covering salaries, overheads, and other operational costs.
Governor Uba Sani commended the Kaduna State House of Assembly for their efficiency and dedication in passing the budget within a short period. The Assembly conducted thorough budget defense sessions, where all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) presented and defended their budget proposals.
Sani noted that the collaboration between the executive and legislative arms played a major role in achieving this success. He expressed pride in the Assembly’s ability to focus on governance over politics, despite its members belonging to both the APC and PDP.
He stated: “Here in Kaduna State, I can say without fear of contradiction that we have the best House of Assembly in the country. Despite the political divide, they remain focused on governance. For me, this is highly commendable.”
The 2025 budget highlights the government’s priorities, focusing on capital projects, rural development, agriculture, and human capital development.
Agriculture is a significant part of Kaduna State’s economy, contributing 42% to the state’s GDP.
In the 2025 budget, the allocation for agriculture increased from 7% in the current year to 9.5%. This shows the government’s commitment to boosting food production, supporting farmers, and growing the agricultural sector.
Increased investment in agriculture is expected to create jobs, improve food security, and grow the state’s economy.
The administration has prioritized rural development by investing in road networks, electricity, healthcare, and other essential services in underserved communities.
