The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, over allegations of multi-billion naira fraud.
According to Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, Bello was arrested on Tuesday at 12:54 PM in Abuja. He had been declared wanted by the EFCC but did not surrender to the authorities. Instead, he was apprehended by operatives of the agency.
The arrest took place at the EFCC’s Abuja office, where Bello is currently being detained for further investigation. The case has sparked public interest due to the significant amounts of money involved.
The EFCC’s swift action emphasizes its commitment to tackling corruption and financial crimes in Nigeria.
”We arrested him (Yahaya Bello) at 12.54pm; he did not surrender himself to the commission, three of his lawyers are here with him.
”Following his arrest, he is having a session with investigators of the commission.
”He is being detained in our custody and he is going to be arraigned in court accordingly,” he said.
