Former Kwara State Deputy Speaker Christopher Ayeni tragically lost his life in a car accident on Thursday, October 31. Ayeni, who served as Deputy Speaker during the fourth State Legislative Assembly, was involved in a serious crash around 10:00 am. The accident occurred approximately 500 meters from the Igbaja junction in Ajase-Ipo, within the Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
According to Basambo Olayinka, the Public Relations Officer for the state’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident involved five people. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported at the scene. However, Ayeni later succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at a local hospital in Ajase-Ipo.
Olayinka also shared that several items were recovered from the accident site, including two Android phones, which are currently held by the FRSC, and two bags in the custody of the Nigeria Police at the Ajase-Ipo Division.
Christopher Ayeni was not only a former deputy speaker but also a candidate in the 2023 House of Representatives election, where he ran under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). After the elections, he switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The tragic news of Ayeni’s passing has sent shockwaves through the political community in Kwara State, highlighting the unpredictable nature of life and the importance of road safety.
