The Yobe State government has completed and handed over the Nazari Livestock Development Centre, located in Jakusko Local Government Area, to Fulani herdsmen. This new grazing reserve is expected to play a significant role in boosting livestock production and promoting economic development in the region.
Governor Mai Mala Buni directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to transfer all facilities at the centre to the Fulani herdsmen leaders. The announcement was made through a statement by Aishatu Tijjani, the Ministry’s Chief Information Officer.
Governor Buni noted that the multi-billion naira livestock development centre, built with support from the Federal Government, is now ready for use. The governor emphasized that this project is one of the largest in sub-Saharan Africa and will help support the livelihoods of the herdsmen while contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the state.
“The construction of the Nazari Livestock Development Centre is a deliberate policy by his administration to settle headers in one place to concentrate on their grazing business and to enrol their children to school,” the statement said.
The Nazari Livestock Development Centre comes with a range of modern facilities to assist the herdsmen and their livestock. Among these are a milk collection centre, health facilities for both humans and animals, a primary school for nomadic children, and a feed mill. There are also special centres for artificial insemination, breed improvement, warehouses, and aqua-culture ponds, all designed to improve livestock production and sustainability.
This project is part of Yobe State’s broader efforts to support sustainable livestock farming and enhance the well-being of nomadic communities. The new facilities will provide valuable resources to improve both livestock and the quality of life for the herdsmen, contributing to the region’s long-term development.
