Angry Crowd Attacks Soldier for Allegedly Killing NSCDC Officer in Oyo

A tragic incident occurred in Ibadan, Oyo State, where a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, Olapade Segun, lost his life after being allegedly stabbed by a soldier, Abubakar.

The two officers reportedly encountered each other at a nightclub located in the Bodija area of Ibadan on Friday, September 20, 2024. According to sources, a heated argument erupted between them, leading to a violent outcome. In the heat of the argument, Abubakar pulled out a dagger and stabbed Segun, causing severe injuries.

Reports revealed that Segun died from excessive blood loss caused by the stabbing. As the news spread, an angry mob gathered at the scene and attacked the soldier when he attempted to flee. Their outrage at the loss of the officer’s life led them to take matters into their own hands, delivering their own form of justice before the soldier could escape.

The source said,

“A soldier called Abubakar and an NSCDC official had a heated altercation at a nightclub in the Bodija area of Ibadan. The soldier, who was angered by the situation, brought out his dagger and stabbed the NSCDC officer. He died as a result of the blood he lost. The soldier wanted to run from the scene but the angry crowd got hold of him and beat him to a pulp. It took the arrival of his colleagues who dispersed the crowd before he was freed,

“I learnt that the Army has set up a panel to investigate the matter because some senior officers of the service have been visiting the state command concerning the incident.”

This incident has raised serious concerns about the tension and conflicts between security personnel in the country. Further investigations are expected to provide more clarity on the situation.
