Peter Obi Says Obidient Movement Isn’t Tied to Any Political Party

Peter Obi, the 2023 Presidential candidate from the Labour Party, has clarified that the Obidient Movement, composed of his supporters, is not connected to any specific political party.

He wrote on X:

This clarification follows the Labour Party’s recent decision to set up an “Obidient Directorate.”

The Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, announced the creation of the directorate to ease tensions and restore confidence among party stakeholders.

As part of their reorganization, the Labour Party introduced the Obidient Directorate and appointed Marcel Ngogbehei as Director, Aju Elumelu as Deputy Director (Diaspora), and Mariam Ismaila as another Deputy Director.

The move to formalize the Obidient Directorate and incorporate its members into the party upset the Obidient Movement.

Members of the movement felt that creating the directorate and appointing leaders without consulting Peter Obi or the core group was an overreach and an attempt to take control of their grassroots initiative.

They also claimed that the Labour Party’s decision was an effort to undermine Peter Obi’s popularity.

Peter Obi’s statement on X clearly shows he supports the Obidient Movement and does not agree with the Labour Party’s creation of the Obidient Directorate.
