A Nigerian man found himself in hot water on social media after crashing a car worth over N100 million during a street race in Lagos. The man, known as #trammania online, was driving a 2022 Corvette Stingray when he collided with a Dodge Challenger at high speed on Sunday.
The race took place in the Eko Atlantic area, with #trammania racing his Corvette against a Jeep. In the heat of the race, his car struck the Dodge that was parked in the middle of the road. The Corvette ripped off the Dodge’s bumper before crashing further down the road. Luckily, #trammania walked away unharmed.
After the accident, the man turned to social media to ask for financial help to repair the costly sports car. This move immediately sparked anger among Nigerians online. Many people criticized him for taking part in such a risky race and then expecting others to help him fix the damage.
One user, @Bidal4Life, commented, “Everyone is chasing generational wealth, and here he is creating generational debt.”
Another user, #iam__temmyyy, pointed out, “Renting a car for a race and then crashing it? You’ve got guts.”
While some were angry, others used the moment to teach about racing safety. #Chuc__kki advised him, saying, “In racing, the first rule is to clear and secure the race path. Instead of making sure the road was safe, people were just recording the race. Now, there’s N400 million debt to deal with in this economy.”
The Corvette Stingray 2022 is a high-performance car with a price tag ranging between $60,900 and $79,850 (N100 million to N131.5 million). Many Nigerians questioned why #trammania participated in such a risky race with such an expensive car.
In the end, his attempt to seek help online backfired, with social media users offering little sympathy and instead calling out his poor judgment.
