A tragic accident occurred in Agaie Local Government Area of Niger State, where a tanker explosion claimed the lives of over 30 people. The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, September 8, 2024, around 12:30 am, along the Lapai-Agaie road, about 2 kilometers away from Dendo Community.
The disaster took place when a petrol tanker collided with a trailer truck that was transporting travelers and cattle from Kano to Lagos. Unfortunately, the crash also involved two other vehicles, including a crane truck and a pickup van.
In addition to the human lives lost, over 50 cattle were burned alive in the fire that followed the explosion. Rescue efforts are still ongoing, as the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) continues to search for survivors and recover bodies from the wreckage. Some victims are still believed to be trapped under the debris.
