Lagos State govt Shuts Down Mosque and Other Establishments for Breaking Environmental Laws

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has shut down a number of establishments, including a mosque, for failing to comply with environmental laws. The affected locations are in Alausa Ikeja, Ogba, Surulere, Sabo Yaba, Ebute Metta, and Shomolu.

LASEPA took this step to enforce the state’s environmental regulations, which are designed to protect public health and the environment. The agency made this known through a post on their X handle (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, September 5.

By sealing these businesses, LASEPA aims to hold them accountable for breaking environmental rules and to encourage others to comply with the state’s environmental standards. The agency continues to emphasize the importance of safeguarding the environment for the wellbeing of Lagos residents.

LASEPA has urged other businesses and establishments to make sure they follow the proper environmental guidelines to avoid similar penalties. The government remains firm in its commitment to improving environmental health across the state.

“In a decisive move to address noise and other environmental violations throughout Lagos State, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has intensified its enforcement efforts by sealing off several establishments in Alausa Ikeja, Ogba, Surulere, Sabo Yaba, Ebute Metta, and Shomolu.

“Some of the sealed establishments included; 12 Meals Lounge, Bel Papyrus, Grand Hyatt, Oluwatoyin Mosque, MultiStyle Supermarket ,Special bread bakery and Understanding Bar, all of which were found in breach of environmental regulations despite previous warnings.

“The General Manager LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi noted the agency’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental laws.

” ‘We will not tolerate non-compliance with our regulations’, Dr. Ajayi stated. ‘All businesses must recognize their environmental responsibilities and collaborate with the State government to ensure a noiseless cleaner and more sustainable Lagos that is safer’.

“This enforcement operation underscores LASEPA’s dedication to maintaining Lagos State’s status as a leading hub of excellence and a pace setter State committed to ensuring a clean and sustainable environment for all residents.”
