Troops Kill 35 Bandits While Repelling Attack in Zamfara Community

In Zamfara State, Nigerian troops have successfully defended Matuzgi village in Talatar Mafara Local Government Area from an attack by armed bandits.

The incident occurred when bandits, led by a notorious figure named Jummu Sumoli, launched an assault on the village. According to a report by Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, the soldiers, with the help of local villagers, were able to repel the attack, resulting in the deaths of 25 bandits. Unfortunately, three residents of the village were also killed during the confrontation.

After the initial battle, the bandits attempted to retreat but were met with an ambush at Magamin Diddi village in Maradun LGA, where 10 more bandits were killed.

This attack comes after a similar incident in July when Matuzgi village was also targeted, resulting in the deaths of many male residents. The attackers had released the women only after receiving ransom payments.

Prior to this recent attack, credible intelligence reports indicated plans to strike Matuzgi and Mai Jatau villages on August 27. The quick response from security forces and villagers played a crucial role in minimizing further casualties and preventing the attack from causing more damage.
