Caleb Mutfwang has explained that the electricity issue mentioned during President Bola Tinubu’s visit only affects the runway at the Jos airport, not the whole of Plateau State.
The governor made this clarification on Wednesday while speaking during an interview on Arise Television, where he responded to questions about the situation.
This clarification followed Tinubu’s recent visit to the state after reports of killings in some communities. During his stop at the airport, the president complained about the lack of electricity.
Reacting to this, Mutfwang explained that Tinubu was referring only to the runway lights at the airport, and not the general electricity supply in the state.
He added that Plateau State is connected to the national grid and also has an advantage of hosting Nigeria’s first hydroelectric power station, which supports electricity supply.
The governor further said that the airport is managed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, which is already aware that the runway lights are not working, and discussions are ongoing to fix the issue.
He also revealed that the state government signed an agreement last year to upgrade the Jos airport into an international cargo airport, expressing confidence that the electricity problem will be solved once the project is completed.
