Oyo: APC leaders reject outcome of Lagelu LG congress, demand review of process

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State have rejected the result of the party’s recent local government congress, saying they are not satisfied with how it was conducted.

The group made their position known in a petition sent to the state party chairman, which was also shared with the media. Several party leaders from different wards signed the document to show their support.

They described the outcome of the congress as unfair and claimed it was forced on members, rather than being a free and transparent process.

According to them, some individuals played a major role in imposing candidates for key positions within the local government, which they strongly opposed.

The leaders are now demanding an immediate review of the congress result. They also want the party to recognize the original agreed list of local government executives that was approved by the national headquarters in Abuja.

In their statement, they expressed disappointment that their earlier complaints were ignored, even after presenting them before the appeal panel. They warned that recent actions suggest an attempt to weaken the party’s structure in Lagelu.

They explained that leaders across the 14 wards had earlier agreed on a united list of executives to promote peace, but this agreement was later replaced by another list imposed by certain individuals working with outside influences.

The group clearly stated that they reject any form of imposed leadership and insisted that grassroots party members must be respected and allowed to have a voice.

They also claimed to have evidence showing that some individuals involved have ties with the state government and opposition party.

Among their demands are a full review of the congress outcome, recognition of the approved harmonized list, proper implementation of ward executives, and a clear directive banning imposition of party leaders.

They warned that ignoring due process and party unity could weaken the APC’s chances in future elections in Lagelu, while stressing their commitment to the party’s growth and unity.

Reacting to the situation, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, said the party is aware of the complaints from some areas.

He added that efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues and urged members to remain patient, assuring that there are internal processes in place to address such disputes.
