A member of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has said the All Progressives Congress made a wrong assumption about the opposition.
He explained that the ruling party believed that Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso would never come together politically.
Speaking on Morning Show on Arise Television, Momodu claimed that the APC is working to weaken opposition parties across the country.
He said the ruling party initially ignored the ADC, expecting that key opposition figures would not form an alliance, but this turned out to be a mistake.
Momodu also accused the APC of using its power to create problems within major opposition parties. He pointed to how quickly the electoral body approved a faction within the PDP as something that raises questions.
Reacting to concerns about the growing role of courts in election matters, he claimed that some top officials are trying to influence the judiciary while also taking advantage of economic hardship to strengthen their political control.
He warned that any attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party system or concentrate power in one person would eventually fail.
According to him, using poverty to control people politically is dangerous, as it makes citizens dependent on handouts instead of real development.
Momodu concluded by saying that although such plans may take time, they will not succeed in the long run.
