Amnesty International has described the recent mass kidnapping in Zamfara State as part of what it calls a “forgotten conflict” in Nigeria. The group warned that many rural communities are still facing frequent attacks without enough protection.
In a post shared on its official X (Twitter) page, Amnesty reacted to the Thursday night attack on Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji, where gunmen reportedly kidnapped around 150 people.
The organisation said that most of those taken were women and children.
Amnesty also revealed that people living in the affected areas feel abandoned and are constantly afraid of being attacked again.
One resident explained that life has become very stressful, as people now live in fear every day and are unsure of what might happen next.
According to Amnesty, this incident is not isolated but part of a larger pattern of violence that has not received enough attention.
The group added that although Nigerian authorities often say they are addressing the problem, the rising number of deaths and kidnappings suggests that the situation is still very serious.
