ASUU issues 4-day ultimatum to Nigerian govt over new salary structure

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has given the Federal Government of Nigeria a four-day ultimatum to begin implementing a new salary structure for lecturers.

ASUU President Christopher Piwuna announced the deadline during a public event, stressing that the government must act quickly to avoid further action.

The union said the demand is aimed at improving lecturers’ welfare and addressing issues of poor pay that have affected the education system for years.

ASUU also expressed concern that delays in implementing agreements have led to repeated disputes between the union and the government.

Education stakeholders warn that failure to meet the deadline could trigger another strike, which may disrupt academic activities across public universities.

The situation continues to raise concerns among students and parents as both sides are expected to negotiate within the given timeframe.
