Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspected cult members during a targeted raid in Uromi. The operation was carried out in the early hours of March 24, following credible intelligence.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikedem, the suspects were picked up from different locations within the area. Those arrested include Solomon Oboigbe, Fidelis Omale, Julius Oseyomon, and Abraham Erumosele Momo.
During the operation, officers recovered four pump-action rifles, nine live cartridges, and three spent shells. The police said the weapons were illegally obtained and linked to the suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the group is connected to the notorious Eiye Confraternity, a group often associated with cult-related violence in parts of the country.
Reacting to the success of the operation, Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika praised the officers for their swift and professional conduct. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling cultism and illegal arms in the state.
The suspects have since been charged to court, while the police urged residents to continue sharing useful information. Authorities assured the public that efforts to maintain safety across Edo State would remain a top priority.
