Governors submit input on state police proposal to NSA

The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has submitted its recommendations on the proposed state police framework to National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.

NGF Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, disclosed the submission during a meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos.

AbdulRazaq stated that the document will be forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration of a legislative framework for state policing.

The governors reaffirmed their commitment to working with security agencies to tackle terrorism, expand infrastructure, and improve citizens’ welfare.

The state police proposal has generated debate, with supporters citing improved local security and critics warning against potential misuse by governors.

Earlier in February, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu inaugurated a committee to develop detailed modalities for establishing state police.
