Rivers State Confirms Two New Cases of Mpox Virus

The Rivers State government has confirmed two new cases of Mpox, a viral disease. Dr. Adaeze Oreh, the State Commissioner for Health, announced the news in Port Harcourt. She assured the public that the Ministry of Health is well-prepared and that the State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre is on high alert to handle any possible emergencies.

Mpox, caused by a virus, can bring about symptoms like fever, weakness, and back pain. While some people may recover without medical intervention, those with weaker immune systems could experience more severe symptoms.

In a positive development, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) recently reported a decline in both suspected and confirmed cases of Mpox across the country over the past four weeks. This indicates a hopeful trend, though vigilance remains key to managing potential outbreaks.

With the state’s health authorities on high alert, Rivers State is ready to combat the spread of Mpox and ensure the safety of its residents.
