Muslim faithful in Abia State celebrated Eid el-Fitr on Friday, calling for peace, unity, and religious tolerance across Nigeria. The prayers took place at Umuahia Township Stadium.
The Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, Mallam Aminu Lawal, highlighted the significance of Eid as a time for gratitude to Allah, emphasizing compassion, cohesion, and societal harmony.
Lawal urged Nigerians to respect one another and work collectively for national progress, stressing that development thrives in unity and mutual understanding.
Yaro Danladi, leader of the Hausa community in Abia, reiterated the Northern community’s commitment to peace and cultural bridge-building across the state.
Governor Alex Otti assured residents that his administration would treat all religious groups fairly, supporting harmony and coexistence in Abia.
Festivities in Umuahia’s Eket and Lagos streets were lively, with mosque activities, gifts exchanged, and young Muslims like Dalhatu Idris encouraging youths to pray for peace and reject violence.
