The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has warned that Nigeria remains the poverty capital of the world, highlighting ongoing economic hardships as the country celebrates Eid-el-Fitr. The group called for urgent reforms to address unemployment, inflation, and poor living conditions.
ACF noted that despite the festive period, many Nigerians struggle to meet basic needs, with food prices and fuel costs rising sharply. The organisation criticised government policies that have failed to provide relief for the poor.
The forum urged leaders at all levels to prioritise social welfare, ensure effective poverty alleviation programs, and create sustainable economic opportunities for citizens.
Speaking during an Eid message, ACF stressed the importance of inclusive growth and equitable distribution of resources to reduce inequality across the country.
The group also highlighted the impact of corruption and mismanagement on the nation’s economy, calling for transparency and accountability to improve living standards.
ACF concluded by appealing to both government and private sectors to intensify efforts toward addressing structural challenges and lifting Nigerians out of poverty while ensuring celebrations like Eid bring hope rather than despair.
