Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno has ordered the immediate closure of Chad’s border with Sudan following a deadly drone attack on its territory. The decision was taken after an emergency security meeting in Ndjamena.
Authorities said the move came after a reported incursion involving Sudanese drones, which has increased tensions along the shared border between the two countries.
The high-level meeting included Allamaye Halina, top military officers, and security chiefs, where the situation and failed diplomatic efforts to resolve Sudan’s conflict were reviewed.
President Deby Itno raised concerns about the humanitarian impact of the crisis, noting that violence in Sudan is spilling over into Chad due to shared ethnic and social ties.
Following the attack, Chad shut down its 1,300-kilometre border and announced plans to send a government team to assess damage and casualties in affected areas.
The president also directed the military to remain on high alert and respond firmly to any further threats, especially those linked to forces loyal to Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
