US govt denies US seeking to oust Cuba’s president

The United States government has denied claims that it is pushing to remove Miguel Díaz-Canel from power. The response came from Marco Rubio, who dismissed the reports as false and misleading.

Rubio rejected a report by The New York Times, describing it as inaccurate. He accused unnamed sources of spreading misinformation and said the claims should not be taken seriously.

Despite the denial, earlier reports suggested that US officials had discussed leadership changes in Cuba, though no direct demand for removal was made. Donald Trump has also made strong statements about Cuba’s political future.

Rubio, a Cuban-American politician, has long supported major political changes in Cuba. In past remarks, he said the US would prefer to see a different system of governance on the island, though not necessarily through direct action.

Tensions between United States and Cuba have increased in recent months, with economic pressure and sanctions affecting Cuba’s already struggling economy. Reports also indicate ongoing discussions and policy pressure rather than outright regime change.

Analysts say the US strategy appears focused on influencing reforms rather than forcibly removing leadership. However, the situation remains uncertain as both countries continue to navigate rising political and economic tensions.
