Benue social media user remanded in prison for defaming lawmaker

A Benue-based social media user, Sunny Attah, popularly known as MOG, has been remanded in prison following his arraignment at the Federal High Court in Abuja. He is facing charges related to cyberstalking, defamation, and spreading alleged false information against a federal lawmaker.

The case involves accusations that Attah published statements targeting Philip Agbese, a member of the House of Representatives from Benue State. Prosecutors argued that the statements were defamatory and capable of damaging the reputation of the lawmaker.

During the court session, the prosecution team led by Victor Okoye presented the charges, while the defence was handled by human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju and two others. Attah’s legal team applied for bail during the hearing.

However, the presiding judge, Justice Liman, adjourned the case until Tuesday for a ruling on the bail request. The court ordered that the defendant be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre pending the decision.
