Ex-Army General heads for Supreme Court to challenge conviction on alleged fund stealing

A former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited, Umar Mohammed, has moved to challenge his conviction for alleged fund misappropriation at the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The retired officer said he decided to approach the apex court after the Court of Appeal partly upheld the judgment delivered by a Special Court Martial in 2023. The court had earlier found him guilty of stealing and mismanaging funds belonging to the military-owned company.

Mohammed argued that his trial was unfair and claimed he was being blamed for actions carried out under directives from senior authorities. He compared his situation to holding a bus conductor responsible for an accident instead of the driver.

According to him, the appeal to the Supreme Court is aimed at clearing his name and seeking justice. His legal team has already filed a motion asking the court to set aside parts of the earlier judgments and review the case.
