Emir Sanusi: Women’s economic empowerment rooted in Islam, not foreign concept

Muhammadu Sanusi II has stated that women’s economic empowerment is deeply rooted in Islam and should not be seen as a foreign concept. He made this statement during the launch of the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy for Kano State.

Speaking virtually, the Emir explained that Islam allows women to own property, inherit wealth, and participate in trade and other economic activities. He noted that women played key roles in the prosperity of early Muslim societies.

Sanusi also emphasized that Kano State cannot achieve strong economic growth without the active involvement of women. According to him, marginalizing half of the population would limit the state’s development and global competitiveness.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Yusuf, represented at the event, described the policy as an important step toward inclusive development. The initiative aims to support millions of women and strengthen the state’s economy.
