Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it attacked a US oil tanker early Saturday in the northern Persian Gulf, leaving the vessel on fire. The strike is part of Tehran’s ongoing military operations in the region.
The IRGC reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz is under Iran’s control and warned that all nations must comply with its navigation rules. The statement emphasized that military, commercial, or other ships from the US, Israel, Europe, or their allies are not allowed to pass without permission.
Iran stressed that any vessel attempting to cross the strait without authorization will be monitored and could be targeted. The move raises tensions in the region, especially amid ongoing conflicts involving the US and its allies.
Officials have not disclosed casualties or the extent of the damage to the tanker, while international shipping organizations continue to assess risks for maritime traffic through the Gulf.
