Tinubu’s aide, Bwala defends govt, denies claims of corruption in Nigeria

The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has defended the administration against allegations of corruption. Speaking during an interview with journalist Mehdi Hasan, Bwala insisted the government is committed to fighting corruption.

During the discussion, Hasan questioned Tinubu’s previous statement suggesting corruption had been eliminated in Nigeria. Referring to reports by Transparency International, he argued that corruption still affects several sectors including defence and security.

Bwala responded that the government investigates corruption cases wherever they occur. According to him, some officials have already been removed from office, investigated, or prosecuted as part of the administration’s anti-corruption efforts.

The debate intensified when Hasan raised questions about the appointment of Abubakar Bagudu, referencing past allegations connected to the late military ruler Sani Abacha. Bwala argued that Nigeria’s judicial decisions are independent and not bound by rulings from foreign courts.
