The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has shared details about a N10 million payment made to lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor in relation to the legal defense of Nnamdi Kanu. The group explained that the payment was part of legal support provided during the ongoing court proceedings involving their leader.
According to IPOB, the payment contradicts claims that Ejiofor handled the case entirely on a pro bono basis. The organization stated that financial contributions were made to support legal services and other case-related responsibilities.
IPOB leaders said the funds were provided through internal contributions by members and supporters. They added that the payment was necessary to cover professional legal duties connected to the case and ensure effective representation.
The group dismissed reports suggesting that the lawyer offered his services for free. IPOB emphasized that while Ejiofor has been committed to the case, the legal team has also received financial support for their work.
Supporters of the group noted that transparency about such payments is important to avoid confusion. They said releasing the information would help correct public narratives about the legal arrangement between IPOB and the lawyer.
Meanwhile, the trial of Nnamdi Kanu continues to attract public attention in Nigeria. IPOB insists it will continue to support its leader legally while also keeping members informed about developments surrounding the case.
