Dangote Refinery assures Nigerians of adequate fuel supply despite Middle East crisis

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has assured Nigerians that there will be enough fuel in the country despite the ongoing crisis in the Middle East affecting global oil supply. The company said it will prioritize supplying petrol and other refined products to the local market to protect Nigeria from possible shortages.

According to the refinery, the conflict in the Middle East has disrupted fuel production in several countries. Some international refineries have reportedly shut down, while China has reduced exports of petrol and diesel, increasing pressure on the global market. Despite this situation, the refinery believes Nigeria’s local refining capacity will help cushion the impact.

The company noted that global oil prices have surged due to the crisis, with Brent crude rising by about 26 percent to above $84 per barrel. Because of the higher cost of crude, the refinery increased its petrol depot price by about ₦100 per litre but said it absorbed part of the additional cost to ease the burden on consumers.

The refinery also revealed it receives some crude supply from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in naira but still needs additional cargoes from international traders to meet local demand. It added that plans are underway to introduce compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to improve fuel distribution across the country.
