Phone-tapping: El-Rufai demands N15.6bn damages from ICPC over arrest, detention

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, and his family have filed a demand for N15.6 billion in damages from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The claim relates to his arrest, detention, and alleged false statements made against him publicly.

El-Rufai accused the ICPC, its chairman, and other officials of causing him and his family mental and reputational harm through their actions. He described the public statements as misleading and damaging to his image.

The former governor insisted that the arrest and detention were unlawful and part of an attempt to intimidate him politically. He and his legal team argue that the commission acted without proper authority or justification.

El-Rufai’s legal team is seeking compensation for the financial, emotional, and reputational losses suffered by the family. The matter is expected to draw attention as it involves a high-profile political figure and a federal anti-corruption agency.
