The Students’ Union Government, SUG, of Federal University of Technology Minna and the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have refuted claims by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago that the Bosso campus has been shut for three years. SUG President Comrade Ezekiel Adaidu Machofo confirmed that lectures and academic activities are ongoing at the campus.
Machofo alleged that state officials invaded the female hostel on February 26, 2026, demanding that students vacate, causing anxiety ahead of exams and assessments. He insisted that the Bosso campus was fully acquired by the university in 1982, contradicting claims that it was leased, citing the Land Use Act of 1978.
NANS Zone C Coordinator, Comrade Hussaini Jamilu Ebbo, urged students to avoid online attacks against the state government. He revealed that the Federal Ministry of Education has convened a meeting with both FUT Minna management and the Niger State Government to resolve the dispute peacefully.
The controversy traces back to a 2025 letter claiming the land was leased and the lease had expired, with a December 1 deadline to vacate. The SUG and NANS maintain that the campus is federally owned and operational, rejecting the state’s takeover plan.
