The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained how the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victory in five of the six Area Council chairmanship seats in the recent FCT elections. The polls were held on February 21, 2026, with only Gwagwalada won by the PDP.
Speaking at his first 2026 media briefing in Abuja, Wike said the party’s strategy focused on developing satellite towns rather than concentrating only on the city centre. He noted that voters in the city often do not turn out in large numbers.
According to him, the Tinubu-led administration prioritized infrastructure and services in communities such as Karu, Kabusa, and Wasa, which encouraged residents to participate actively in the election.
Wike stressed that strong voter turnout in satellite areas made the difference, adding that governance impact in those communities helped APC secure the majority of seats.
