Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has criticised Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi over his reaction to the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Adeyanju accused Gumi and others of sympathising with extremist causes, claiming they were unhappy about the development.
The Iranian leader was reportedly killed in a major air operation said to involve the United States and Israel. The strike, which allegedly took place in Tehran, has sparked strong reactions from political and religious figures across different countries.
Reacting to the news, Gumi described Khamenei as someone who died “in jihad,” saying he stood for justice and did not hide during conflict. He added that the late leader’s death would inspire change within the Muslim community.
Adeyanju, however, questioned Iran’s defence strength and criticised its ability to prevent the attack. The exchange has further stirred debate online, reflecting deep divisions over the crisis and wider Middle East tensions.
