President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reappointed Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term. The announcement was made by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, confirming that the renewed tenure took effect on February 27.
Audi was first appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His previous term ended during the 2026 World Civil Defence Day activities at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja. He is expected to resume duties with a fresh mandate to strengthen the agency’s role in national security.
President Tinubu tasked him with repositioning the NSCDC to support ongoing efforts against banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism. The directive comes as security agencies adjust strategies to better protect lives and property across the country.
Born in Nasarawa State in 1967, Audi has built a long career within the corps since joining as a volunteer in 1996. With academic qualifications spanning public administration and law enforcement, he has served in several state commands before rising to lead the organisation.
