A chieftain of the Labour Party, Clement Ojukwu, has raised concerns over the party’s decline since the 2023 elections. He said multiple court cases weakened the party and led to the loss of many lawmakers at federal and state levels.
Ojukwu noted that the party once had dozens of members in the National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly. However, he claimed that most of them have now defected, leaving the party with only a few representatives.
He announced his decision to align with the caretaker committee led by Nenadi Usman, saying it is the legally recognised leadership. Ojukwu urged members across the country to unite and rebuild the party ahead of future elections.
While distancing himself from the faction linked to Julius Abure, he denied betraying anyone. He also appealed for an end to ongoing legal battles, warning that internal disputes are damaging the party’s strength and public support.
