Lupita Nyong’o has opened up about her ongoing battle with uterine fibroids, revealing she currently has over 50, with the largest being the size of an orange. The Oscar-winning actress first underwent surgery in 2014, when 23 fibroids were removed.
Nyong’o shared that she faces the difficult choice again: undergo surgery, which carries reproductive risks, or continue living with the pain. She admitted she is not ready to make a decision yet, highlighting the emotional and physical toll of the condition.
The actress stressed the emotional impact of her diagnosis, describing feelings of shame, fear, and isolation, especially concerning her reproductive health. Over time, connecting with other women with fibroids has helped her find strength and community support.
Now, Nyong’o is using her platform to raise awareness about fibroids, advocating for better understanding and treatment options. She emphasized the importance of speaking openly to ensure the condition is no longer trivialized.
