N100m paid into account of IGP’s son in error – Police

The Nigeria Police Force has explained that the N100 million found in the account of Victor, son of the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, was paid in error. Force spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the money was quickly returned after it was noticed. He stressed that neither Victor nor his father had any link to the funds.

Speaking on Politics Today, Hundeyin explained that the young man alerted his account officer immediately he saw the credit alert. According to him, the transaction was reversed without delay. The clarification followed an online claim that the money came from Anambra State’s security vote account.

The police spokesman added that Victor later closed the account to prevent further issues. He reportedly printed his bank statement and submitted a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, asking for a full investigation into the allegation.

Hundeyin maintained that the incident was purely a banking mistake. He said the funds were traced and returned to the government account where they originally came from. The police urged the public not to spread unverified claims about the matter.
