Lagos launches aerial surveillance patrols to boost crime fighting

The Lagos State Security Trust Fund has introduced aerial surveillance patrols to strengthen crime prevention across Lagos State. The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force Airwing Command, aiming to improve intelligence gathering and rapid response to security threats.

According to LSSTF Executive Secretary, Ayo Ogunsan, the patrols mark a major step in modernising the state’s security system. He said low-altitude flights have already covered parts of Lagos Island and the mainland, allowing real-time monitoring of crime-prone areas.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Airwing Command, Martin Nwogoh, explained that the aerial patrol demonstrated how quickly large areas can be surveyed. He added that air support can also be used for rescue missions and tactical deployments when necessary.

Meanwhile, Lagos State Commissioner of Police Moshood Jimoh described the development as a warning to criminal elements. The Trust Fund reaffirmed that the flights are for surveillance and public safety, noting that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu supported the initiative as part of broader security reforms.
