Nigeria Wins $6.2 Million Arbitration Case Against European Tech Giant

Nigeria has recorded a major legal victory after the Bureau of Public Procurement won an international arbitration case against European Dynamics UK Ltd, saving the country from paying over $6.2 million in claims. The dispute centered on a national e-procurement software project tied to reforms supported by the World Bank.

The tribunal ruled entirely in Nigeria’s favour, rejecting all demands made by the contractor, which had sought payments for alleged milestones, damages, and settlement costs. The legal team from Johnson & Wilner LLP, led by Basil Udotai, successfully argued that the system delivered failed required performance tests and did not meet contractual standards.

Director-General Adebowale Adedokun said the outcome proves Nigeria can defend its interests globally, noting the contractor had previously won similar cases in other countries. He credited the support of Attorney-General Lateef Fagbemi and the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for backing the legal process rather than settling out of court.

Officials say the ruling highlights the need for strict testing, clear contract milestones, and accountability in public tech projects. They believe the decision will strengthen future government contracts, protect public funds, and encourage other African nations to defend their resources in international disputes.
