NDLEA Foils Attempt to Smuggle 3,200 Tramadol Capsules Concealed in Fake Pregnancy at Seme Border

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have thwarted an unusual attempt by a suspected female drug trafficker, Rabi Muhammad, to smuggle tramadol concealed in a fabricated pregnancy at the Seme border in Lagos State.

Rabi, a 35-year-old Kano-based businesswoman, was apprehended by NDLEA officers at the departure point of the Seme land border on Monday, February 16, 2026, while attempting to cross into Cotonou, Benin Republic. She was intercepted with what appeared to be a protruding pregnancy bump.

The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Sunday, February 22.

According to the statement, a thorough body search uncovered that the suspect was not pregnant.

Instead, she had strapped a pink-colored calabash to her abdomen to simulate a baby bump.

The improvised concealment device was found to contain 3,200 capsules of tramadol, allegedly intended for distribution in Cotonou.

The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing.
