The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists has called on lawmakers at the National Assembly to urgently pass the Special Seats Bill to improve women’s representation in governance. The group said the proposed law would help correct long-standing gender imbalance in politics.
The association explained that women remain underrepresented in elective positions despite their contributions to national development. According to the body, creating reserved seats would give more women a fair chance to participate in decision-making processes.
Leaders of the Osun NAWOJ stressed that inclusive governance strengthens democracy and ensures broader perspectives in policymaking. They added that empowering women politically can also inspire younger generations to engage in leadership and civic activities.
The group urged federal legislators to treat the bill as a priority and demonstrate commitment to gender equality. They expressed optimism that passing the measure would mark a major step toward fair representation and a more balanced political system in Nigeria.
